WHAT IS DÍA!

On Monday, April 29, 2019, San Luis Coastal Unified School District libraries will celebrate "Día", a national library program that fosters literacy for all children from all backgrounds. Día, also known as El Día del Niño/El día de los libros (Children’s Day/Book Day) is a commitment to include and celebrate all cultures through literacy.

THE PLAN

The Rotary Club of San Luis Obispo, with the help of the United Way of San Luis Obispo County, and Delta Gamma of Cal Poly, will go to all 10 elementary schools to read books by diverse authors, rich in diverse culture, and reflective of our diverse population to classrooms from kinder to 6th grade. We will also be donating the books we read to classroom libraries to build continuing understanding and acceptance

HOW TO HELP

  • READ: Once you sign up to be a reader, you will be assigned a school, classroom and a book.  Buy the book, read it aloud to the class, leave the book for the class.
  • DONATE: Expert librarians have curated lists of diverse books to donate to classrooms throughout the district.  You or your organization can donate as few or as many books as you like.  Your name will be printed on the inside cover to recognize the donation.
